My daughter has struggled with eczema and I really don’t like putting a cream on her skin with a million ingredients I can’t pronounce. I lather her up in this balm twice a day and it has made a world of difference. Not only is great for eczema but it’s perfect for cracked heals, dry hands, elbows, anywhere that needs a little extra love – especially in the winter.

Ingredients

Tallow – Ideally you would purchase this from a local source but you can also get it off of amazon! Or even your local natural health food store.

Oil – I prefer to use avocado oil since it is so neutral but you can use an oil of your choosing – olive oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, etc.

Essential Oils (optional) – when I make this for my toddler daughter I don’t add any essential oils but if I make it for myself or my husband I looovvveee adding them.

How To Make Whipped Tallow Balm

Step 1: Add a half cup of tallow and two tablespoons of oil of your choosing to a saucepan on the stove top. Heat on low heat until the fat is melted.

Step 2: Let it cool until you can touch it comfortably. If you want to add essential oils, this is when you should add them in and stir.

Step 3: Let it further cool until it is solidified. At this point, you can add to a container if you don’t care about the whipped consistency. Otherwise, either add to a stand mixer with the whipping attachment, you use a hand mixer to whip! Just like you would whipped cream.

Step 4: Add to a container or your choice! It can be pretty or just plain tuber ware.

Tips For How To Make Whipped Tallow Balm

  • It will take no time at all for the fat to melt so don’t walk away!
  • Depending on the temperature of your house it might take a while for it to solidify.
  • Customize the essential oils! I’m a lavender girl but I think tea tree oil is great for men. Peppermint or frankincense for Christmas!

This will last at least a year in an airtight container. If you store it in the fridge it will last even longer.

Nowadays it’s pretty easy to find! Ideally you would purchase it locally from a farmer but you can find it in many grocery stores next to the “normal” oils. Your local Whole Foods definitely has it. Last resort: Amazon!

  • 1/2 cup tallow
  • 2 tbsp oil avocado, olive, jojoba – your favorite
  • 15 drops essential oil optional! Don't use for babies

Instructions

  • Add a half cup of tallow and two tablespoons of oil of your choosing to a saucepan on the stove top. Heat on low heat until the fat is melted.
  • Let it cool until you can touch it comfortably. If you want to add essential oils, this is when you should add them in and stir.

Notes

*if making this for a baby/toddler I would leave out the essential oils
*the oils melt fast so don’t walk away while you are heating it
